What Is T.A.M.A.R?
TAMAR stands for Trauma, Addictions, Mental Health and Recovery.
TAMAR is a voluntary, structured, trauma-informed program for justice-involved individuals who have experienced trauma and may also be living with mental health or substance use challenges.
The program helps participants understand how trauma can affect emotions, relationships, decision-making, mental health, and substance use—while developing practical skills for recovery and successful community reentry.
T.A.M.A.R Focuses On:
TRAUMA
Understanding trauma, triggers, and the impact of adverse life experiences.

Participation in TAMAR is voluntary.
More Than a Group
TAMAR is designed to address the individual behind the trauma—not simply completion of a curriculum.
CBH's TAMAR team can assess participants' behavioral health needs and help coordinate additional services when appropriate.
Support May Include:
Individual Support & Therapy
Individual behavioral health services based on identified needs.
Mental Health Treatment
Connections to appropriate outpatient behavioral health services.
Substance Use Treatment
Assessment, treatment, and recovery resources for substance use disorders.
Psychiatric Services
Connections to psychiatric evaluation and medication management when appropriate.
Peer Support
Recovery-oriented engagement and support from individuals with relevant lived experience.
Care Coordination
Assistance navigating behavioral health and community resources.
From Detention to Community
Treatment Shouldn't End at the Detention Center Door.
A central component of CBH's TAMAR program is creating continuity between behavioral health treatment during detention and services following release.
1 ENGAGE
Participants are identified, screened, and engaged in voluntary TAMAR services.
2 TREAT
Participants receive trauma-informed education, behavioral health support, and recovery-focused services.
3 PREPARE
Before release, the TAMAR team works with participants to identify treatment needs, medications, recovery supports, and potential barriers to successful reentry.
4 CONNECT
Participants receive warm handoffs to appropriate behavioral health, recovery, and community resources.
5 SUPPORT
Community-based services help participants continue treatment and work toward longer-term recovery and stability.
Reentry Starts Before Release
Whenever release information is available, CBH works to develop an individualized aftercare plan at least seven days before release.
Planning may address:
-
Mental health treatment
-
Substance use treatment
-
Psychiatric care
-
Medication continuity
-
Primary and other medical care
-
Housing
-
Transportation
-
Benefits
-
Identification documents
-
Food and basic needs
-
Employment and education
-
Peer support
-
Recovery resources
Warm Handoffs — Not Just Referrals
Successful reentry often requires more than providing someone with a telephone number.
The TAMAR team works to create meaningful connections between participants and the providers and community resources they may need following release.
Connecting Participants to CBH's Continuum of Care
When clinically appropriate and based on eligibility, TAMAR participants may be connected with CBH services following release, including:
Outpatient Mental Health
Individual therapy and behavioral health treatment.
Psychiatry
Psychiatric evaluation and medication management.
Substance Use Treatment
Assessment and outpatient treatment for substance use disorders.
Medication-Assisted Treatment
Evidence-based treatment options for eligible individuals with substance use disorders.
Psychiatric Rehabilitation
Community-based rehabilitation and independent living support.
Intensive Outpatient Services
Structured treatment for individuals requiring a higher level of outpatient support.
Targeted Case Management
Coordination of behavioral health, medical, and community resources.
Peer & Recovery Support
Recovery-oriented support and connection with community resources.
